The GWR pannier tank steam locomotive is shown climbing past Kilbury Manor and under Paper Mill Bridge, just before completing the seven-mile, 30-minute journey from Totnes. 1369 was one of just six 1366 Class locos to be built and was the only one to be preserved. This footage shows violent Storm Ingrid and huge waves crashing over the famous Dawlish sea wall, with mainline trains continuing along Brunel’s coastal railway as sheets of water slam into the carriages. Several wave impacts were so forceful that sea spray reached our live cameras mounted on top of the three-storey Sea Breeze Café, giving a rare perspective on just how extreme conditions became during storm Ingrid.
