A symphony of space! 🎵 This sonification of the galaxy NGC 6872 translates data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory and Hubble into music. Volume is mapped to brightness, and the pitch is related to the distance from the center; the farther away, the higher the pitch. For Hubble's data, a low drone signals the core of NGC 6872, while higher, brighter sounds represent the extended spiral arms. The majestic spiral galaxy NGC 1300’s arms hold blue clusters of young stars, pink clouds of star formation, and dark lanes of dust. To represent this image with sound, scientists assigned louder volume to brighter light. Light farther from the center is pitched higher as a counterclockwise radar scans across the galaxy.
