On this day in 2005, the ESA's Huygens probe landed on Saturn's moon Titan after its separation from NASA's Cassini Orbiter in December 2004. Huygens is the only spacecraft to have soft-landed in the outer solar system and holds the record for the most distant landing from Earth. After its treacherous 2.5-hour journey through Titan's atmosphere, Huygens was able to transmit data from Titan's surface for 72 minutes.
