One of our Blue Duck / whio pairs, River and Meadow, have been busy laying their first clutch of eggs for the season, right on time. Meadow laid her first egg on July 28th last year, and we think it was almost exactly the same this year! Here are blue duck / whio in a feeding frenzy just prior to their release. Two of our Wildlife Keepers have driven these juveniles to Karamea (towards the top of the south island on the west coast) and from there, will helicopter to the Heaphy track. It will then be a purely natural diet for these lucky birds who will soon be living in their natural environment.
