A survivor of the 1945 Nagasaki atomic bombing who devoted his life to advocating for peace has died aged 93. Shigemi Fukahori died at a hospital in Nagasaki, south-western Japan, on January 3, the Urakami Catholic Church, where he prayed almost daily until last year, said on Sunday. Local media reported he died of old age.

Nihon Hidankyo is the Japanese organisation representing survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombings. The heads of the organisation, Terumi Tanaka, Shigemitsu Tanaka and Toshiyuki Mimaki, received their Nobel Peace Prize medals earlier this month.
