The Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland 2025 was unveiled last night at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, bringing exciting news for London's culinary scene. A total of ten London restaurants were awarded their first Michelin star, while two establishments elevated their status to two stars.

Elsewhere, Plates in Fitzrovia became the first plant-based restaurant in the UK to gain a Michelin star, while AngloThai earned the accolade having been open for only two months. Both restaurants might represent the slow acceptance of more modern dining trends from this ancient, antiquated confraternity.

There are a total of 220 Michelin star restaurants in the UK and Ireland, including 10 three star, 29 two star and  181 1 star.

London’s world-famous Ritz Restaurant and the innovative Soho venue Humble Chicken have both been awarded two Michelin stars. The Ritz Restaurant, led by the much-loved chef John Williams, earned its first star in 2017 and many had tipped it to move up to two.

Plates London has made history as the first fully vegan restaurant in the UK to receive a Michelin star. The East London restaurant, located on Old Street, was one of 26 restaurants to be recognised at the prestigious Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2025 ceremony,
