After weeks of disappointment, growing concerns over the state of their offensive capabilities, and questions about the future of Head Coach Hugh Freeze, the Tigers left Razorback Stadium Saturday with their first SEC win of the season.
McPherson has been limited since last season due to a lingering gastrointestinal illness, leading to some questions when Freeze sent him out for a 50-yard field goal in overtime. McPherson missed the kick badly, and Freeze admitted after the game that he “should’ve gone with Connor [Gibbs]” on that kick.
The Tigers (4-4, 1-4) picked up new life after inserting Ashton Daniels at quarterback late in the second quarter. Auburn’s starter, Jackson Arnold, was benched after throwing an interception late in the half that Arkansas’ Kani Walker returned 89 yards for a touchdown, giving the Razorbacks a 21-10 lead at the break.
