Unlike the last time President-elect Donald Trump took the oath of office eight years ago, the bristling tension and angry defiance have given way to accommodation and submission.

Trump's "Make America Great Again Victory Rally" marks his first major speech in Washington since he urged his supporters to march on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in protest against his defeat.

The campaign-style rally was a break with tradition for presidents, who have sought to reserve their comments for the official inauguration speech.
