Israel’s top general resigned Tuesday, taking responsibility for security failures tied to Hamas’ surprise attack that triggered the war in Gaza and adding to pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu,

Israel’s military chief of staff, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, has said he will resign in March over the failure to prevent the October 7 attack.

Israeli security forces backed by helicopters raided the volatile West Bank city of Jenin on Tuesday, killing at least eight Palestinians in what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a ‘large-scale and significant military operation’.

Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi said the Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreed last week meant now was the right time to leave his post.

The Chief of General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Herzi Halevi, has resigned. The general took responsibility for the massacre on October 7th, the day of the attack on Israel by Hamas fighters.
