More than 170 million people across the United States, from the Mexican border to the Canadian border are under cold weather alerts ahead of a crippling winter storm expected to sweep through the south from Texas to Georgia,

The coldest weather of the winter is here and won’t relent until late this week. Highs may not escape the 20s until Friday; on Wednesday, they may not surpass the teens. While it’s cold, it’s dry. Significant snow is not in the forecast this week. By the weekend, temperatures will start to moderate some.

Another blast of winter weather is expected in parts of the U.S. in the coming days, including bone-chilling wind in the Northern Plains and unusual snow and ice in the Gulf Coast area
