WASHINGTON — Just as Pierre-Luc Dubois made his return to play, the Washington Capitals lost another top skater to injury in Dylan Strome, who will not return to Saturday's contest against the Ottawa Senators.
Shane Pinto, Nick Cousins and Thomas Chabot also scored for the Senators (4-4-1), who are 3-1-1 in their past five games. Linus Ullmark made 12 saves. Trevor van Riemsdyk scored for the Capitals (6-3-0), who won 5-1 at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday. Charlie Lindgren made 27 saves.
A tight game for two periods turned into a 5-1 rout for the Washington Capitals over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Late in the middle frame, frustration boiled over, as Lindgren dropped Ridly Greig in front of his crease before getting into it with the Senators behind the net. Linus Ullmark attempted to start a goalie fight and came down the ice, but the referees weren't having it.
Olle Lycksell’s game-winner — his first goal as a Sen — was a great encapsulation of the effectiveness of the team’s depth forwards that night.
The Washington Capitals have made a pair of roster moves in advance of their game Saturday night against the Ottawa Senators. The Capitals announced that they have activated center Pierre-Luc Dubois off injured reserve. To make room for him on the roster, the team has returned winger Ethen Frank to AHL Hershey.
