LONDON -- Russia overnight launched a heavy air attack on Ukraine -- including striking Kyiv with drones and ballistic missiles -- that killed at least six people, including two children.

Russia launched a massive drone and missile attack on Ukraine's capital on Wednesday, killing at least two people, Ukrainian officials said.

At least 18 people were injured in the attack, said Kyiv administration head Tymur Tkachenko.

The Gripen, manufactured by Swedish aerospace and defense giant Saab, is widely regarded as an ideal fighter jet for Ukraine. The jet is designed to operate from austere airstrips, requires minimal maintenance, and was built to fight and survive against Russian-style threats.

Russia and Ukraine pounded each other with heavy overnight missile attacks as diplomatic efforts to end the war faltered, with the White House saying there were no imminent plans for presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to meet.
