Most of Friday in Houston will be sunny with blustery but warm southeast winds that will help push temperatures to as high as 85 degrees before the storms arrive late at night. Overnight temperatures will stay above 70 degrees as the cooler air and the humid air fight for dominance during the storms.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected Friday, according to the National Weather Service, with heavier rainfall in the forecast for Saturday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a series of weather alerts for Houston and surrounding counties, urging residents to prepare for heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and the likelihood of severe thunderstorms over the weekend.
October has brought Houston only a “trace” of rain so far, but the first measurable rain since September could soon fall. Here’s a timeline.
The worst of the storm came through between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday, with the hardest-hit areas seeing winds of up to 40-50 mph. CenterPoint said Saturday that 95 percent of its customers experienced no interruptions; however, about 169,000 customers saw their power knocked out during the storm's peak.
The cooler air moving in behind Tuesday’s front will bring in one of the better Halloween forecasts that we’ve seen. Temperatures will be in the low 70s for the little ones late afternoon and mid to low 60s Friday evening!
Houston’s dry streak will end soon. As we wind down one of the city’s driest Octobers on record, heavy rainfall is on the way this weekend.
Halloween is shaping up to have great weather with warm (but not too hot) daytime conditions, a cold fall evening and zero rain chances. For now, make sure to secure any outdoor decorations, as strong winds are anticipated with the approaching front. #TXwx #HOUwx pic.twitter.com/74relnDQQW
More than 100,000 homes and businesses in the Houston area lost electricity early Saturday morning as the region was struck by strong overnight thunderstorms. Another wave of rainfall was in the forecast for later Saturday, starting in the afternoon, along with wind gusts of up to 20 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
