Those who knew Jonathan Schaffer, the man killed at Coquette restaurant in North Hills, remember him as a kind-hearted and well-liked individual, leaving friends, coworkers, and customers grappling with the shock and heartbreak of Saturday's tragic events.

George Colom Jr., 34, who was listed as the executive chef at Coquette Brasserie, had been in critical condition at a hospital after Friday morning’s shootings.

Officers responded to the 4300 block of the Circle at North Hills Street, after a 911 caller reported “a male was shooting at someone.” Initial reports indicated several people might have been shot, according to the archive feed for Wake County fire departments.

The executive chef of Coquette restaurant walked into the North Hills establishment Friday morning and shot two men, employees of the restaurant told WRAL News.

The incident took place at Coquette, a French restaurant in a North Hills mall, located in an affluent area of Raleigh on Friday. While the call was initially for an ‘active shooter,’ police later confirmed it was not a traditional ‘active shooter’ situation.
