A winter storm brought snow to the Richmond region, prompting a winter storm warning and affecting travel, power outages, and school closures.

The official snowfall total for Indianapolis at the National Weather Service near the airport on the southwest side was 7.8". That makes Jan. 5-6, 2024 the city's snowiest storm since Feb. 15-16, 2021, when 8.1" fell. To put it into perspective, that number nearly matches the seasonal snow totals for Indy the past three seasons:

Bitterly cold temperatures are forecast across Indiana from 7 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to a cold weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service. By Monday, the daily high is expected to drop near 10 degrees, with wind chill indexes cold enough to cause frostbite on exposed skin within just 30 minutes.
