JJ Yeley and Chandler Smith saw their bids to make the field for the 2025 Daytona 500 come to an end in Duel Qualifier 1 on Thursday night at Daytona International Speedway.

Denny Hamlin was the fastest overall driver in Wednesday's opening practice session for the Daytona 500, while Chandler Smith paced the nine "Open" drivers on the entry list.

Helio Castroneves, a four-time Indy 500 winner, was involved in a crash in Thursday's Daytona Duels and will take a provisional to run Sunday's Daytona 500.

Two Daytona 500 starting spots will be awarded to the highest open finishers in each qualifier. In the first race, the open cars are being driven by Truex, Justin Allgaier, Helio Castroneves, Chandler Smith and JJ Yeley. In the second race, the open cars are being driven by Johnson, Corey LaJoie, Anthony Alfredo and BJ McLeod.
