Almiron will reportedly sign a four-and-a-half year contract at Atlanta, where he played his football between 2016 and 2019 after joining from Argentine side Lanús. During his first spell in America, he played 70 games across all competitions – scoring 22 and creating 21 – before sealing £21m move to St. James’ Park.

Atlanta United has completed the signing of Miguel Almiron from Newcastle United. The Athletic reported on January 15 the MLS side had tabled a bid worth £11million ($13.5m) for the 30-year-old Paraguayan who will return to Atlanta six years after he left the club to join Newcastle.

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has said the Magpies' recruitment hopes for the last few days of the window are over - but hinted thoughts are now moving towards the summer.
