Russell is perhaps the most exciting member of the Crimson Tide QB room, at least longterm. While just a true freshman, he signed with Alabama as a 5-star prospect and could be an early contributor for the Crimson Tide. Grubb said he’s been impressed with Russell so far in spring practice.
Alabama football’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb revealed Wednesday Ty Simpson took the biggest jump from day one of spring practice to day two.  Simpson is the Crimson Tide’s most experienced quarterback.
The media was privy to the early portions of practice and were able to see Nick Sheridan and Ryan Grubb working closely with the Crimson Tide quarterbacks as Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and Keelon Russell embark on a competition to determine who steps into Jalen Milroe's vacated shoes and leads the program in 2025.
