Tamil Nadu braces for heavy downpours. A deep depression in the Bay of Bengal is intensifying. Chennai and coastal districts are on alert. Heavy rainfall is also expected in delta regions. Tourists are advised to postpone hill station trips.

Heavy rainfall is likely in isolated places of Thanjavur, Sivagangai, Pudukkottai, and Tiruchirappalli districts on.

IMD predicted heavy rainfall for the regions which are still recovering from the effects of Cyclone Fengal as the weather system is expected to approach the Tamil Nadu coast later in the day.

The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for today and tomorrow in a few delta districts in Tamil Nadu. The alert has been issued in light of a building low pressure system in southeast Bay of Bengal.

Today, heavy to very heavy rain is expected to pour over isolated places in Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai and Mayiladuthurai and Karaikal.

Chennai and other districts, including Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villuppuram, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram, are also likely to experience heavy rain at isolated locations.

Chennai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warning of heavy rainfall due to a significant low-pressure area hovering over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. Areas Under Alert Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert,

Heavy rainfall is predicted across southern states by the IMD, with an orange alert in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore and surrounding districts. A yellow alert is also in effect for isolated areas. Rain is expected to persist until December 16.
