Tropical Storm Ivo forms in the eastern Pacific and could impact coastal Mexico, forecasters say
Forecasters say Tropical Storm Ivo has formed off the coast of southern Mexico in the eastern Pacific Ocean and could bring rain and rough surf to some areas.
The weather system, designated AL98, is forecast to move west-northwestward across the southwestern Gulf of Mexico during the next day.
Strong thunderstorms have diminished in East New Mexico and in Southwest New Mexico, but humid conditions are left over. Very gusty winds are beginning to wind down, but some east-gap breezes have formed.
A Gulf disturbance has a low chance of becoming a tropical storm, but it could bring rain, high surf and deadly rip currents to the Texas coast.

Fewer storms & hotter despite New Mexico clouds
Most-humid conditions are still present in East New Mexico with east-gap winds less gusty after yesterday’s storms formed but dissipated overnight. Way-above-freezing temperatures are still once again confined to most of the higher peaks of the Northern Mountains with valley floor locations mostly starting off in the upper 40s or in the 50s,
Hurricane Erin is Category 5 storm with 160-mph winds. A westward-moving tropical wave could produce an area of low pressure in the tropical Atlantic late in the week of Aug. 18, the hurricane center said on Aug. 16. The center shows a 20% chance of storm formation over the next week.
