The euro-area economy unexpectedly eked out growth in the second quarter, benefiting from better-than-predicted performances in France and Spain.

The euro zone economy expanded by 0.1% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the first, flash data showed. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast euro zone growth to flatline in the second quarter. Output from the region's largest economy, Germany, shrank by 0.1% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the previous period.
