ATLANTA — The mother of a young officer killed in the line of duty on Friday remembers her son wanting to do something more rewarding with his life and help people. 33-year-old David Rose recently graduated from the police academy before joining the DeKalb County Police Department in September 2024.
Officer David Rose, 33, was shot and rushed to Emory University Hospital. He was later pronounced dead. The suspected shooter, who the GBI has identified as 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White, was also killed in the incident. Rose was responding to the threat of an active shooter at Clifton Road and CDC Parkway when he was fatally wounded.

Officer David Rose, 33, was shot while responding to the gunfire, the DeKalb County Police Department said in a news release. He was transported to nearby Emory University Hospital where he died of his injuries. Newsweek has contacted the police department for further comment via email.
