Millions of people across Jamaica are hunkering down and praying for safety from Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall on Tuesday around 1 p.m. with winds of 185 mph.
The storm was forecast to dump up to 25 inches of rain over Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica as it continues to strengthen this weekend.
According to the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Hurricane Melissa is currently cranking out maximum sustained winds of 175 mph with gusts clipping over 200 mph. In fact, Melissa is so powerful that the storm has sucked tens of thousands of birds into the eye and trapped them there.
