Snow, ice and potentially severe weather are slated to hit parts of the Midwest this week, but there will likely be a sharp cut-off line for snow when the system hits.

Heavy snow is expected to blanket large portions of the Eastern U.S. while much of the country will endure dangerously cold temperatures in the coming days.

(WAND Weather) —Central Illinois' first big snowstorm of the season exited Monday morning. Moderate to heavy snow fell across much of the area Sunday morning through early Monday. As we expected, the heaviest of the snow was around Interstate 72 southward. Much of this area picked up 5-10" of snow.

A major snowstorm will move across the Central Plains this weekend, bringing heavy snow, ice and potentially hazardous travel conditions to multiple Midwest states, including Illinois. But when exactly is it set to arrive,

"The level and extensiveness of the frigid air may be tough to match the rest of the winter," forecasters warned.

The snow is likely to fall on Sunday from the Appalachians to New England. New York City may see its largest snowfall in years.
