THE TEXAS TRIBUNE – The all-girls Christian summer camp where 27 people, most of them children, were swept away and killed by the July 4 flooding in Kerr County was just one of 13 summer camps along the Guadalupe River built on land prone to flooding.
The Polk County Office of Emergency Management announced Saturday that the dam at Carter Lake near Camden, about 110 miles northeast of Houston, had been compromised. The county OEM reported possible damage to the dam's embankment, and that the property owners at the dam were assessing the risk to the community.
