City officials are moving forward with a new development project near South Coast Plaza that promises to bring over 1,000 new homes.

The South Coast Harvest Festival will be celebrating all things fall for the third year at Westport Fairgrounds. What to know about this year's event:

Council members unanimously approved The Village Santa Ana Specific Plan and Development Agreement, allowing for what the city described as an “underperforming commercial center” at 1561 W. Sunflower Ave in Santa Ana into an urban center with buildings that would range from one to 25 floors high.

A mixed-use urban village with retail and commercial space at ground levels and residential towers got the Santa Ana City Council’s support Tuesday night.

With the South Coast Rail project running and heading into its first weekend, locals may be curious how this whole train thing works. The MBTA commuter rail’s extension through Middleborough now links Fall River with Boston for the first time since 1958.

Activities include a 45-minute hayride, ice cream with five fall flavors and an opportunity to feed animals. The hayride will accommodate 20 people at a time and last 45 minutes. Ice cream will be pre-scooped, allowing attendees to create their own sundaes. Simcock Farms will provide bags of feed for the animals.
