Three days after Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica, floodwaters have continued to rise in St. Elizabeth Parish because of blocked drainage system. As of Friday, homes and roads remained flooded, and power had not been restored.

A Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for northern, southwestern and south-central parishes as additional rainfall could lead to localised flooding and landslides, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas,

The Category 5 storm ravaged western Jamaica and drenched the small community of New River, where residents were coping with a massive clean up. At least 19 people have died nationwide, officials said.
