Google Maps taps Gemini AI
Digest more
From road tripping home for the holidays, to trekking out to a cabin for a snowy weekend, winter is a great time to travel. Google Maps makes it easy to find where you're going, from finding hidden restaurant gems just off the beaten path, to navigating around traffic snarls on your way to winter adventures.
Google has slowly been adding AI to many of its products, including Maps, which last year got an updated version of Immersive View that allows users to ask questions about surrounding businesses and activities. Now the company is bringing AI into some of the core functions of Maps: route planning and navigation.
In the coming weeks, people will be able to ask AI assistant Gemini to answer questions, provide summaries and add calendar invites within Google Maps.
