Digest more
The comet is on what’s known as a hyperbolic trajectory, which means that it doesn’t follow an orbital path around the sun. It’s also traveling at about 137,000 miles per hour, which is too fast for the comet to be slowed down by the sun’s gravity.
C/2025 V1 (Borisov) will be passing by the pale blue dot at a distance of 103,119,940 kilometers or 0.68 AU, before its perihelion on November 16. Post the perihelion, the stargazers might be treated to a delightful burst of a celestial light show featuring the glowing tail of the object in transit.
