SEC pushes for no automatic qualifiers in playoff; last week's results show it might have a point
Instead of simply pushing for a limited number of automatic qualifiers in the next version of the College Football Playoff, leaders in the Southeastern Conference are now suggesting they don't want any at all.
This week's forecasted College Football Playoff field got changed after the results of Week 11 of the season with one notable addition.
Tuesday's College Football Playoff rankings produced a few interesting talking points. The Texas Tech Red Raiders moved up to No. 6, but the BYU Cougars didn't fall too far after their loss in Lubbock. BYU is one of two other Big 12 teams inside the top 15.
Notably, the first group of 25 teams in the College Football Playoff Rankings did not include a Group of Six program. According to the selection committee, Memphis of the American Conference is the highest-ranked school outside of the Power Four and, as such, it snagged a spot as the 12-seed in the projected bracket.
