After Auburn lost 10-3 to a Kentucky team that was on a 10-game SEC losing streak, it was obvious head coach Hugh Freeze’s time with the Tigers was over. He was just in his third season, but the program was foundering, with a 6-16 mark in SEC play. The offensive-minded head coach’s teams had been held to 17 points or less in 11 of those 22 games.

The SEC is a gauntlet. Few teams have realized that more than South Carolina, a team that owns only one win and that against the No. 15 team on this list. A trip to Texas A&M comes next and about the best the Gamecocks can hope for at this point is playing spoiler then beating a down Clemson team in the rivalry game to end the season.

Kentucky continues to bring up the rear at the base of the SEC and is still searching for its first conference win of the year ahead of Saturday’s trip to face Auburn. The Tigers aren’t much better off by comparison, though they at least have the SEC monkey off their back after last week’s win over Arkansas stopped a slide of four straight defeats.
