Thirty-five cars of a Union Pacific train derailed Tuesday afternoon near a small Texas town, officials said. No injuries were reported and no evacuations have been ordered following the afternoon derailment,

(Reuters) -A Union Pacific Railroad train derailed two miles east of Gordon, Texas, on Tuesday, the company said, and emergency responders said the derailed cars did not appear to be leaking their contents. The emergency responders in Palo Pinto County said that, nonetheless, the derailment was "being treated as a HazMat situation."

The derailment involved 35 cars carrying hydrochloric acid, propane and fuel, narrowly avoiding an environmental and public safety disaster.
