WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans on Monday proposed deeper Medicaid cuts, including new work requirements for parents of teens, as a way to offset the costs of making President Donald Trump’s tax breaks more permanent in draft legislation unveiled for his “big, beautiful bill.”
Republican leaders are aiming for quick negotiations over needed changes to the newly unveiled Senate tax bill which lacks the votes to secure majorities in both chambers as written.
After weeks of negotiations, it's unclear whether Republican senators are any closer to finding the votes to approve the package.
Senate Republicans hope to pass the "big, beautiful bill" by July 4th. It will then go back to the House for consideration.
