Close on the heels of cyclone Fengal, which devastated northern Tamil Nadu, heavy rains under the influence of a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal continues to lash the state and neighbouring Puducherry.

Chennai and other districts, including Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villuppuram, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram, are also likely to experience heavy rain at isolated locations.

According to the IMD bulletin on Dec. 12, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are very likely to witness isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The carrier informed passengers that departures, arrivals and their consequential flights might be affected due to heavy rain.

An orange alert has been issued for parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe, while a yellow alert has been issued for coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema and south interior Karnataka due to the ongoing rain predictions.

Cyclone Fengal will likely become a cyclonic storm, causing heavy to moderate rains in Tamil Nadu. Schools in 11 districts, including Chennai and Puducherry, will be shut on November 29 and November 30.
