A day after Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said he was withholding additional state funding for Dallas’ new police academy because the plans had changed, city officials were on damage control at a Wednesday meeting.

City leaders on Wednesday explained the new changes to its proposed police academy in partnership with the University of North Texas at Dallas.

Dallas city staffers are reconsidering their approach to delivering a new police training academy after councilmembers pushed back on a plan to keep new recruits at the outdated facility, which was a key point in convincing voters of the need for change.
