At least 40,000 to 50,000 Portlanders took to downtown streets yesterday, Saturday, October 18, to march, wave signs, and raise their voices against the increasingly authoritarian policies of President Trump—though some estimated the crowd size to be much larger.

“No Kings” rallies unfolded across the United States on Saturday and reporters and photographers from the parent company of The Oregonian/OregonLive documented dozens of them, from Portland to Boston. The largest of Portland rallies gathered at Tom McCall Waterfront Park and drew 40,000 people, police said.

Following a peaceful "No Kings" rally and march through Portland, protests at the ICE facility continued as part of the nightly gatherings at the building.

Miami’s “No Kings” protest had an Uncle Sam, a tribute to Portland’s inflatable frog costumes and lots of homemade signs bashing the Trump administration for a host of issues.

Separately, federal agents repeatedly deployed tear gas and pepper spray on protesters at the ICE complex in Portland.
