The largest mass transit system in the country was swamped by flash flooding as water pored into New York City's subway system and Grand Central Terminal causing a travel nightmare for commuters Thursday.

The MTA says it's considering raising the fares for commuters in the New York City area yet again. The proposed 10-cent increase, the first since 2023, has been long in the works and would come after the mothballing of the MetroCard.

The price to ride New York City subways and buses will likely increase to $3 in January, MTA officials said during the agency's monthly board meetings on Wednesday. Originally planned for August, the proposed fare hike was delayed to allow for a required public comment period.
