Hurricane Melissa brought hurricane-force gusts to Bermuda overnight and will weaken as it heads north, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. Maps show its forecast path.

Hurricane Melissa— one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded—is now off Cuba’s eastern coast, after leaving a trail of destruction across the large island and its much smaller neighbor, Jamaica.

Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica last week, before making its way across the Caribbean to Haiti and Cuba, claiming at least 49 lives in its path. Founder Luke Simon said his charity would get help to the people "whose lives have been so affected by the devastation".

After Hurricane Melissa left widespread devastation across Jamaica, the Tampa Bay community has rallied to provide relief.
