Tamisha Lee is in Mandeville, where she is seeing heavy rain, powerful winds, objects flying through the air, and darkness as the electricity has gone out. Lee is the president of the Jamaica Network of Rural Women Producers (JNRWP), a partner of humanitarian organisation CARE International, which will be helping with the recovery effort.
Melissa made landfall on Jamaica's southwestern coast around midday Tuesday as a Category 5 storm, with sustained winds of 185 mph, making it the strongest hurricane of the Atlantic season to date and the most powerful hurricane to ever hit the island.
A cold front is expected to push through the area mid-week, bringing pleasant temperatures and zero rain chances for those planning to trick-or-treat.
