Mexico has sued Google after it changed the label for the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on its maps platform to match U.S. President Donald Trump's executive order.

Mexico on Friday said it had filed a lawsuit against US tech giant Google for renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America for Google Maps users in the United States, even though parts of it are on the Mexican continental shelf.

President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico on Friday morning said her government had sued Google over the company’s decision to label the Gulf of Mexico as ‘Gulf of America’ — a spat going back to February, when the Trump administration issued an executive order to rename the gulf.
