Portsmouth Councilman De’Andre Barnes is accused of forcibly pushing his wife into a door at a residence in front of police on Sunday night, according to court documents. Police were initially responding to the residence on Boat Street for a report of a burglary.

Portsmouth court documents state Barnes' wife was gathering belongings when he allegedly pushed her into a storm door "with great force" in front of police.

De’Andre Barnes, a member of City Council in Portsmouth, was arrested in connected to a domestic dispute, according to Portsmouth police. However, he was later released from custody and not charged with a crime after a magistrate judge denied arrest warrants, according to police.
