Cyclone Fengal has caused widespread destruction in Tamil Nadu, claiming 12 lives and affecting millions, prompting an urgent plea for financial aid from the state government.

Cyclone Fengal showered record rainfall in several parts of Tamil Nadu including Salem, Krishnagiri and Tiruvannamalai, and Puducherry.

The call from PM Modi came in the wake of a letter by CM Stalin requesting Rs 2,000 crore for relief measures in the state.

Red alerts have been issued for Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram, while Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki, Alappuzha, and Ernakulam are on orange alert.

As cyclone Fengal wreaked havoc in Tamil Nadu, it was reported that seven people died in Tiruvannamalai. Five bodies have been recovered by the officials. The search and rescue operations resumed on December 3 at 7:30 am.
