South Carolina's burn ban was lifted for 44 counties at 5 p.m., Wednesday, but remains in place for Georgetown and Horry counties due to ongoing wildfire risks.

The Taylor County Commissioners Court met Tuesday afternoon in a special meeting to consider adopting a burn ban.

The heightened risk of fire in Itawamba County led to the institution of a burn ban. The ban started on Saturday, March 1 and runs through March 19.

Washington County officials issued a countywide burn ban on Monday due to heightened fire danger, including from dry and windy conditions. The burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning, according to a county news release. The ban includes, but is not limited to:
